!!! omg dude I went on a roller coaster reading this - first I was like wait is this Coleman the same dude that Phil talked about on Weird Studies??
And then I read the long story about him trying to learn music normally and how he threw up after understanding it and I was like 'yessss this is that dude'
AND THEN you even quoted Phil lol cuz I was ready to come in hot into the comments and be like 'have you heard of weird studies'
I'd appreciated the Coleman story during the WS pod, but reading it in the light of this idea was really powerful and fascinating...makes me wonder about what that looks like in writing - to not write by rules to just sorta vibe lol
So weird! I was just thinking about this Mr. Rogers hearing and wondering if it could ever happen today. I don't think a politician on the right would be so moved, or understand these values .
The sentence that destroys you
A great read, thanks for this :)
Fantastic. "Head VI" was the perfect piece of art to accompany the Coleman story.
Really wish Schuller could at least paraphrase what he said

“Ships at a distance have every man's wish on board.” I’ll never forget it. It was days before I could read the rest of the book.
